JODHPUR
It is a second largest city in the Rajasthan. As per the counting of population, this city has been declared as the second “Metropolitan city of Rajasthanâ€. Jodhpur is well known and very much popular for the tourist destination, and it has many places, forts and temple as a point of attraction for tourist. Actually Jodhpur is very much popular and called up with two names. Jodhpur is also renowned as “sun cityâ€, because, throughout a year, it enjoys sunny weather, and apart from these, it also renowned as “blue cityâ€, due to the vivid blue painted houses around Mehrangarh Fort.

According to the Hindu epic Ramanaya, Abhiras or Ahirs were the original inhabitants of Jodhpur and later Aryans spread to this region. Jodhpur was founded by a Rajput chief of the Rathore clan, Rao jodha in 1459. The city was, located on the strategic road linking Delhi to Gujrat.

  1. Mehrangarh Fort: The most magnificent fort in Jodhpur is the Mehrangarh Fort. It is situated on a 150m high hill. Rao Jodha, the then chief of Rathore clan, constructed it in 1459.
  2. Umaid Bhavan Palace: One of the fascinating palaces of Jodhpur is the Umaid Bhavan palace. Maharaja Umaid Singh constructed it in 20th century.
    A part of the palace has now been converted into a hotel and a museum.
  3. Jaswant Thada: Jaswant Thada lies to the left of the Mehrangarh fort complex. It is a royal cenotaph made up of white marble. It was built to commemorate Maharaja Jaswant Singh.
  4. Rai ka Bag Palace - Built by the King Jaswant Singh First's queen Hadiji, this palace dates back to the year 1663.
  5. Raj Ranchhodji Temple - Raj Ranchhodji Temple Constructed by Queen Jadechi Rajkanwar post her husband King Jaswant Singh's death, this red sandstone temple houses Ranchhodji's statue, which is made of black colored marble.
  6. Umaid Garden - Umaid Garden Developed over an area of about 82 acres by Maharaja Umaid Singh, this garden includes green lawns, plants of rose and other seasonal flowers, Ashoka trees, fountains, a library, a zoo and a museum.
