Heritage Tour of Rajasthan

Destination Covered: - Delhi - Mandawa - Bikaner - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur - Pushkar - Jaipur - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra - Delhi.
Tour Duration: - 15 Nights / 16 Days

Day 01: Arrive Delhi
On day one you arrive at the New Delhi Airport. A representative will extend a traditional ‘Swagat’ on meeting you there. You would then be assisted at the airport and taken to the hotel where you can stay overnight. You can know about the tour schedule while the keys and the documents are handed over to you. Now you have checked in you can spend the night at the Hotel Delhi.

Day 02: Delhi
Delhi is the political capital of India. This city has got a new incarnation today. Contemporary Delhi that reflects the several flavors and colors of the eclectic composition of India is a place where you will be amazed, inspired, impressed and fascinated at every nook and corner.

After breakfast your guided tour of Delhi will ensue in the morning. The first spot you visit will be “Qutab Minar”. The first Muslim ruler Qutab-ud-din-Aibak started building this monument in the year 1200 AD. En route to “Rashtrapati Bhawan” which was formerly the Vice-regal Lodge and now the presidential palace you can visit “India Gate” which was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. This gate that has a 138 ft high arch and is 160 ft high was completed in 1931. You proceed with your tour to the famous “Lotus Temple” which is in the shape of a lotus. You can then pay a visit to the 1562 built memorial of Mughal Emperor Humayun, the Humayun’s Tomb. From there continuing your tour further you can reach Raj Ghat, a place related to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. This monument is a simple platform made of marble and it is the place where he was cremated on 31 January 1948. The next visit is to the Red Sand Stone building the Red Fort.

Optional- you can attend the Sound and Light Show at the Red Fort with dinner.

Day 03: Delhi - Mandawa (280 km / 06 hr)
After breakfast you can check out of the hotel and drive to Mandawa which is amidst the semi-arid Shekhawati region. Rao Shekha ruled this region in the fourteenth century and since then this region is named after him. It was at this time that Mandawa was a settled and fortified land. This was made so because of the presence of the dominant Silk Route merchants in the area. This region still retains the aura and charm of those bygone days. For the tourists coming here is akin to stepping into another world.

Morning Post Breakfast, Check out from the Hotel and drive to Mandawa in the heart of the semi-arid Shekhawati region. Shekhawati owes its name to Rao Shekha who ruled this area in the 14th century. These were the times when Mandawa was settled & fortified by the rich & dominant Silk Route merchants of the region, Mandawa still retains the charm & aura of a bygone era & coming here is like stepping into a different world.

Day 04: Mandawa - Bikaner (160 km / 04 hr)
The guided tour of Mandawa will begin after breakfast. You can start the tour with a visit to the Mandawa Fort that is situated in the heart of the city. This is a classic example of the popular Rajput architecture. You can also visit many more Havelis in this region if time permits and get to know about the colorful life of Rajasthan. The next destination of the sojourn after sightseeing is Bikaner, the princely state. You can check into the hotel at Bikaner. This was established by Rao Bikaji (1465- 1504 AD) in 1488 AD. The prime attractions of this city are the people adorned in colorful traditional costumes, Palaces and Forts. The illustrious Camel Festival and also the Camel Breeding Farm in Bikaner is the only one of its kind in all of Asia.

Day 05: Bikaner - Jaisalmer (325 km / 06 hr)
After breakfast the guided tour of the city will ensue. Beginning with the “Junagarh Fort” that was constructed by Raja Rai Singh between the years 1588 and 1593 you can proceed with the tour. This fort has 2 entrances and 37 bastions on the 986 meter long wall. The next destination is the sixteenth century Jain temple the “Bandh Sagar Temple”. In this complex it is an important temple. Dedicated to a mystic, Karni Mata is the temple of this deity at Deshnoke. It is believed from legendary times that the prophecy made by her that Rao Bika would be victorious came true. Thousands of rats along with her are revered here even today.

The next destination is Jaisalmer and you can drive there after you have finished with the sightseeing. You can check into the hotel on arrival at Jaisalmer. This is a paradise in the princely state of Rajasthan. Among the several exceptional qualities of this city it being situated in a remote location and surrounded by the Thar Desert is just one of them.

Day 06: Jaisalmer
After breakfast you can go on the guided tour of the city Jaisalmer. A visit to the old town of Jaisalmer and the Jaisalmer Fort is on the agenda. The only “Living Fort” in India the Jaisalmer Fort has an enchanting cobweb of narrow lanes within its ramparts and is dotted with some beautiful Palaces, Havelis (Mansions) and beautifully sculpted Jain Temples that were built between twelfth to fifteenth centuries along with the ubiquitous camels and skilled artisans. You can also pay visit to the magnificent Patwon Ki Haveli which is in the heart of the city. On the sand dunes of Sam you can take a camel ride while the sun is setting down driving a distance of about forty km from Jaisalmer to Sam.

Day 07: Jaisalmer - Jodhpur (290 km / 07 hr)
After breakfast you can check out of the hotel and drive to Jodhpur. Being a bustling city it is the second largest city of Rajasthan. The landscape of this city is dominated by the gigantic Mehrangarh Fort that is topping a thin rocky ridge. This was known as Marwar formerly and was the seat of a Princely state.

You can check into the hotel on arrival.

Day 08: Jodhpur
After breakfast your guided tour the Jodhpur city will start with the visit to the Mahrangarh Fort (Majestic Fort). It is considered as one of the most formidable and impressive structures in India. This five km long Fort built by Rao Jodha on the 125 m high hill has some splendid palaces that have marvelously carved panel latticed windows. An exquisite collection of howdahs (elephant saddles) palanquins, royal cradles, musical instruments, miniature paintings, furniture and costumes are housed in the Fort Museum. You can then pay a visit to the Jaswant Thada which is a cluster of royal cenotaphs built in white marble in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II in the year 1899 AD. The portraits of the different Jodhpur rulers are found within the main cenotaph.

Day 09: Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur (260 kms)
After breakfast you can drive to Udaipur. Checking into the hotel is the first activity you will do on arrival. Maharana Udai Singh founded Udaipur in the year 1568. It is one of the romantic cities of India undoubtedly. The calm waters of Lake Pichola mirror the beautiful palaces of this city. This city is considered to be a brilliant kaleidoscope of narrow lanes which are flanked by bright gardens, stalls, palaces, lakes and temples.

En route you can visit Ranakpur. This is well known for the marvelously marble carved Jain temples that were created in the fifteenth century when Rana Kumbha was reigning here.

Day 10: Udaipur
After breakfast you can continue your guided tour of Udaipur. The City Palace is the first destination on this day. After Udai Singh, various Maharanas (Kings) contributed to this palace and built in the year 1725, it is an intriguing collection of buildings. Right from the entrance of the palace which is at the northern Tripolia Gate you can experience its magnificence. This gate opens on the central courtyard which is the best place to have a view of the ornate cupola-topped towers and the façade of the filigreed balconies. Maharana Sangram Singh built an ornamental garden Sahelion ki Bari (Garden of Maids of Honor) for his daughter and the different ladies of the court of the Queen. Seven fountains, and pools adorn this garden built by him and this is decorated with chiseled elephants and pavilions. The Indo-Aryan Temple, the Jagdish Temple is the next destination you can head to on continuing your tour. This was built by Maharana Jagat Singh in the year 1651 AD. Taking a boat ride in the Pichola Lake would be enjoyable. The surrounding hills, temples, palaces, bathing Ghats and the embankments enhance the beauty of the lake.

Day 11: Udaipur - Pushkar (285 Kms / 06 Hrs)
After breakfast you can drive to Pushkar. You can check into the hotel on arrival to this town. For the Hindus, this is one of the most sacred places and a feel of the ancient religious town can be had here. Pushkar houses the only temple of God Brahma in India and this has made it an important pilgrimage center for the Hindus. In the month of November Pushkar Festival takes place and this has made Pushkar renowned all over the globe. During this fest the entire city of Pushkar becomes a fabulous fair ground and is visited by thousands of pilgrims who come here to take bath in the holy water of the Pushkar Lake. Along with this they pay a visit to the largest camel and cattle markets where the breeders, farmers and traders of camel come together for buying and selling.

Day 12: Pushkar - Jaipur (160 Kms / 03 Hrs)
After breakfast you can continue the Pushkar Lake and The Brahma Temple (creator of the Universe) and also take a dip in the Pushkar Lake.

You can drive to Jaipur after sightseeing. At Udaipur on arrival you can check into the hotel. This is city is the colorful and flamboyant capital of Rajasthan and is popularly called as the Pink City. It’s colorful and rich past is resplendent with tales of bravery and valor. Founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Sing II in the year 1727 this Pink City was the first planned city of India.
Optional- in the evening you can go on an excursion to the Chokhi Dhani complex. It is an ethnic village resort located about 15 km from Jaipur. An atmosphere of a typical Rajasthani village is created on the sprawling ground where entertainment by folk dancers and musicians is presented.

Day 13: Jaipur
After breakfast you can begin the guided tour of Jaipur. The destination you will first cover is the “Amber Fort” which is a classic romantic Rajasthani Fort. Man Singh I started its construction in 1952 but it was completed by Jai Singh I his descendent. The forbidden exterior of this is belied by the inner paradise whence a beautiful mélange of the Hindu and the Mughal architecture hits upon its ultimate expression. Next you can move on to the “City Palace which is a pleasant fusion of the traditional Rajasthani and the Mughal architecture. This City Palace is spread over about one-seventh of the total area of the walled city. Then you proceed to “Jantar Mantar” (Solar Observatory), which is considered as the well preserved and the biggest of the five Jai Singh II built observatories in different parts of the countries. Continuing your tour you land in an ornamental façade the “Hawa Mahal”, the “Palace Of Winds” which is an important landmark of this Pink City. This is a five storied building made from sandstone and plastered pink. It is also encrusted with elaborate balconies and fine trelliswork.

Day 14: Jaipur - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra (240 km / 05 hrs)
After breakfast you can check out of the hotel and drive to Agra. You can reach the hotel first and check in. on the way you can visit the 1504 Sultan Sikander Lodi founded city, Fatehpur Sikri, which is a medieval city situated on the banks of River Yamuna. From 1526 to 1658 it had attained fame as being made the capital city of the Mughal emperors.

Fatehpur Sikri is situated at a distance of 35 km from Agra. On being proffered by a prophecy of that he would beget a male heir Emperor Akbar started to construct a new Capital city. The tomb of Sufi Saint Salim Chisti who made the esteemed prophecy is housed in Fatehpur Sikri. This site is renowned for the spiritual atmosphere it exudes and also for the qawaalis. This offers an ideal retreat in a place where time is found to stand still.

Day 15: Agra
After breakfast you can start your guided tour the city. “The Taj Mahal” is the site that you can start your sojourn in the city. This monument is undoubtedly the most famous site in Agra. This was built in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal by Emperor Shah Jahan. Considered to be the symbol of long lasting love the Taj is considered to be one of the most splendid architectural achievements on this earth. From here you proceed toward “Agra Fort” which was built by Emperor Akbar in the year 1565 AD. The building where Emperor Shah Jahan was believed to be kept in captive and died, the Musanman Burj, Moti Masjid, “Itmaud-da-daula”, the Mini Taj and the like are the other buildings you can visit during this tour.

Day 16: Agra - Delhi (240 Km / 05 hrs)
After breakfast you can check out from the hotel and drive to Delhi. You can visit Vrindhavan and Mathura (Sri Krishna Janmabhumi Temple) en route to Delhi. A visit to the famous Bankey Bihari Temple and the ISKCON Temple that are connected with the birth and the childhood of Lord Krishna are also on the agenda of the tour. You can straight away head to the airport or the railway station on arrival at Delhi to continue your onward journey to home.
